Binx’s Home is a nonprofit and foster-based black cat rescue in Asheville, NC. They have had an incredibly busy kitten season, and can use our support! Read a message from Hannah, Executive Director, below:
“This Kitten Season has truly tested us as an organization and honestly, we're barely hanging on. Between more kittens born from the lack of spay/ neuter after the hurricane, a higher prevalence of ringworm and other illnesses (also due to the hurricane/ weather), and lack of adoptions and donations, we are drowning in vet bills and operational costs just to keep intaking black cats and kittens.
And then Pumpkin Spice arrived this morning…
Pumpkin Spice was brought to us this morning while our other cats were seeing the vet. She was lethargic, emaciated, horribly anemic, eyes infected, refusing to eat or drink, and was drenched in motor oil. Even though our intake is closed, we couldn't turn her away. She needed help- and fast! We had to bathe her six times to get all the oil out of her fur. Once she was clean, we then had to get her dry and warm before we could try to feed her, all the while her anemia was worsening. We worked on her for about an hour before we felt like she might be ready to try and eat. To our surprise: she ate three Churus while we warmed her up in the sun! She's now warm, dry, and medicated with a full belly in my lap as I type this. Hopefully, she continues to improve.
But we need your help today. With over 90 black cats and kittens in the rescue, just like Pumpkin Spice, we're desperate for assistance. Our cat rescue operates almost exclusively on individual donations from people like you, and at a time like now when adoption rates are plummeting, we're operating at a deficit each week of a few thousand dollars and that can't continue. Donations are tax-deductible and are used for everything from veterinary care, transportation, to every day supplies and resources needed to keep our rescue running at full capacity. No amount is too small to make a huge difference in the lives of these cats and kittens AND you can set up monthly recurring donations to keep the support going all year long below.
